The House at 396 is led by Matthew H. Welden, a native Atlantan. Welden’s story is testament to his ability to delicately balance the emotion of creativity with more analytical problem solving. Graduating from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee with a double major in English and Economics, Welden began his career in finance and equity trading- honing an ability to read the room, navigate end to end solutions and preemptively seek out and resolve issues.
Several years later, and with a desire to follow his true passion for interiors, Welden made a move to Summerour and Associates Architects as the Chief Operating Officer before ultimately joining forces with Justin Van Breda as the President of Justin Van Breda London. Together, the two brought their line of custom, hand-made casegoods, upholstery and rugs to the American market.
Welden’s interiors narrative has grown organically alongside the furniture business, leading to a greater focus on Interior Decorating and the founding of The House at 396. The House at 396 is the ultimate expression of this accumulated experience in creativity and problem solving, offering a complete decorating service.
On the odd occasion that Welden is not at work, he loves entertaining with his family in their home, “Club 396”, unsurprisingly the inspiration of the interior firm’s name.
And this, my friends, is just the beginning of the story…
